Shafer Redi-Mix, Inc is looking for a full-time hard-working, enthusiastic, and reliable yardman to help maintain our Lansing plant.
Our yardmen keep grounds and operations of plant location in a neat and orderly condition by performing the following duties:
- Maintains aggregate stockpile area.
- Conducts scheduled maintenance program on plant equipment.
- Maintains communication with Dispatch regarding needs or problems relating to plant.
- Train to operate front-end loader.
- Other Duties as assigned.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted. Must be able to climb excessive heights. Shafer Redi-Mix offers 7 locations to service the needs of our customer base. Shafer offers a $5,000 SIGN ON BONUS for experienced mixer drivers or a $1,500 SIGN ON BONUS for CDL licensed drivers and competitive pay (Up to $34.00/hr) and benefits, as listed below, and is seeking experienced Redi-Mix Drivers (will train if needed) with strong customer service skills for full-time positions. Locations available in Michigan include Detroit, Albion, Mason, Jackson, Lansing and Battle Creek.
Job purpose:
Primary responsibility of this position requires safely driving a concrete mixer truck, attention and detail to hopper loading of truck, unloading concrete at a variety of job sites, attaching and detaching chutes as necessary and maintaining a clean truck both inside and out.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Safely driving truck under loading hopper for each load mix
- Safely driving truck to and from destination applying knowledge of DOT driving regulations and area roads
- Verify directions with plant personnel before leaving the plant to ensure delivery to the correct customer and job site
- Strive to meet customer expectations without exception
- Keep equipment in acceptable condition of cleanliness using approved cleaning materials and supplies, after deliveries to prevent hardening of concrete in mixer and on truck
- Maintain contact with supervisor/dispatch to receive and transmit delivery instructions
- Assist other company employees as needed
- Complete pre- and post-trip inspections on truck equipment and supplies, such as tires, lights brakes, gas, oil, and water
- Must be able to take orders, instructions, and guidance from supervisors and management
- Cooperate and promote a team concept with all other company employees, as well as customers
- Adhere to all Company, DOT, and OSHA. rules and regulations at all times
- Meet or exceed company safety standards

Purpose of Position:
- Under the direction of the QC Manager, the QC Technician is responsible for performing QA/QC testing in compliance with all applicable ASTM, ACI, & Job Specific Standards and other associated tasks by direction
Key Responsibilities:
- Working in safe professional manner
- Communication with everyone (QC Manager, Dispatch, Customers, Drivers, etc.)
- Performing proper plastic concrete testing at the plants and on jobsites in accordance with all applicable standards
- Ensure all materials meet or exceed all applicable state and job specifications
- Reporting: Ensure that all appropriate reports are properly filled out and recorded into the Command QC data base
- Monitor and test aggregate conditions for compliance with applicable standards at the plant level
- Properly logging in, breaking and recording results of concrete cylinders
- Acknowledge customer complaints/claims and take appropriate actions to resolve matter with reduction in liability whenever possible
- Attend pre-pour and other jobsite meetings as required
- Participate in Research and Development of new products
- Conduct and assist as needed with employee and customer training programs
- Participate in cross training of all departments at Shafer Redi-Mix / Shafer Bros
- Other related duties as required
Job Requirements:
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Knowledge of and dedication to quality assurance / quality control principles and standards
- Completion of MCA/ACI Field Technician Level 1 or higher
- Attention to detail and ability to follow through without direction and constant supervision
- Operational knowledge of batch plants, mixers and related processes
- Good organizational and planning skills
- Excellent Customer service ability
- Basic knowledge of computers and Microsoft office
- Must be able to perform simple mathematical calculations

Physical Requirements:
